Region II Midwest Regional Championship Outcome

The best of the Midwest took the fields on June 23rd-25th for the Prelim games of the 2012 US Youth Soccer Region II (Midwest) Championships presented by the National Guard at Saginaw Township Soccer Complex in Saginaw, Mich. Teams from 14 states have converged to determine who will represent the Midwest at the 2012 US Youth Soccer National Championships this July in Rock Hill, S.C.

By the end of day Monday, the field was whittled down to 56 semifinal teams as they extended their quest for a national championship. Out of the 56 teams, Ohio North was thrilled that we had 9 teams representing. Teams included: U14G Ambassadors, U15G Internationals, U16G Internationals, U16G Cleveland United, U18G Internationals, U15B Challenger Crew Jrs Black, U16B Ambassadors, U17B Everest Black, and U19 Pacesetter.

And then there were 28, 6 of which were Ohio North teams, on the start of day 5, June 27th. The winners of final games qualified for the US Youth Soccer National Championships in Rock Hill, S.C., July 25-29, at Manchester Meadows. Teams displayed heart, effort and determination to earn a chance to lift the regional trophy.

Ohio North is proud to say 4 of our teams will be going to Rock Hill, SC for Nationals. U14G Ambassadors move on from a shootout, U15G Internationals won 3-1, and U16G Cleveland United won 1-0. U15B Challenger Crew Juniors Black, got a second chance with each regional finalists securing their journey to Nationals through the Nationl league prior this Year. Challenger Crew Jrs Black and Grand Rapids Crew Jrs (MI) met to determine a regional representative in South Carolina. Challenger Crew got the victory and are on their way to the national championships.

Well played matches by all of the 19 teams representing Ohio North. Good Luck and Congrats to the 4 advancing to Nationals in Rock Hill, SC July 24th-29th.

Referees at Regionals and Moving on to Nationals

The referees selected to represent Region II at the National Championships were announced Wednesday the 27th and Ohio North has two of the twelve slots. Vicente Suarez (Strongsville) has been selected to go as a referee. Vicente is returning to Nationals after previously being selected as an Assistant Referee in 2010.

Matt Rivera (Middleburg Heights) has been selected as an Assistant Referee. Matt and Vicente will be joined at the National Championships by Sal Saia who was selected as a referee in 2011 and was one of four referees invited back for 2012 based on his performance at the National Championships.

The Ohio North delegation of referees was again very strong and would like to thank them for attending. The delegation included: Dylan Beck; Amy Bobonik; Toby Frohlich; Sean Gorrell; Paul Ivan; Joe Kuzma; Miriama Lear; Tim Mann; Mark Martin; Zach Marzilli; David Moliterno; Mark Moskwa; Sal Saia; Ryan Slack; Ron Stuver; Nick Vass and Ben Zirkes. Jim MacQueen went as an assessor and Michael Farmer and Sorin Stoica were mentors.
